Privacy policy
Last updated 7 October 2026
4olio collects no data. There's no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your notebook stays on your iPhone, and a page leaves it only when you send it yourself.
This policy covers the 4olio app for iPhone and this website. 4olio is made by Syed Javaid (“we”, “us”).
What we collect
Nothing. 4olio makes no network connections, has no servers and contains no third-party code for analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking. We never receive your pages, photos, drawings, settings or anything else you do in the app. On the App Store, 4olio's privacy label reads “Data Not Collected”.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you make is stored in 4olio's private storage on your iPhone:
- your pages: where each item sits, and what you draw and write;
- the copies of photos you choose (see Photos);
- pages friends send you, while they're in your mail;
- your notebook settings, such as the cover label, paper, page-turn style, sounds and the optional name you sign envelopes with.
None of it is synced to other devices or sent to us.
Photos
4olio uses the iOS photo picker, which runs outside the app. 4olio doesn't ask for access to your photo library and can't see it; it receives only the photos you choose. For each one, 4olio keeps a resized copy for the print, plus the date the photo was taken (if it has one) for the date stamp. The copy doesn't keep the photo's location or camera details.
Sending and receiving pages
When you tap Send Page, 4olio makes a postcard image of that page and, if you choose, an editable copy (a .4oliopage file), and hands them to the iOS share sheet. You choose where they go, such as Messages, Mail or AirDrop. That service delivers them under its own privacy terms; 4olio has no server and doesn't see them.
- Only that page is included. Photos in it are rebuilt from their pixels, so their location and camera details are removed before sending.
- Your notebook's name, your device name and your account aren't included. Your name appears only if you set one under Sign envelopes as.
- The postcard can carry a small “Made in 4olio” mark, which you can turn off in Notebook Settings.
When you open a page someone sent you, 4olio checks it, rebuilds its photos the same way, and keeps it in your mail on your iPhone until you tuck it in or toss it.
Third parties
4olio contains no third-party software development kits and shares nothing with anyone. We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Apple and your iPhone
- Backups. 4olio's storage is included in your iPhone backup if you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer. Those backups are between you and Apple.
- Downloads and reviews. Apple runs the App Store and handles your download and any rating or review you leave, under Apple's own privacy policy.
- Crash reports and statistics. If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may give us crash reports and aggregated usage figures that don't identify you. You can turn this off at any time.
Children
4olio is rated 4+ and collects no personal information from anyone, including children. It has no accounts, chat or public posting. Sending a page uses the iPhone's own share sheet, which parents can manage with Screen Time. If you believe a child has emailed us, tell us and we'll delete the message.
Your choices and rights
Because we hold no data about you, there's nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete. You stay in control on your iPhone:
- delete a page with More › Delete Page (it can't be undone);
- toss pages you've received from your mail;
- delete the 4olio app to remove the notebook and every photo copy from your iPhone. Copies can remain in older backups until those backups are replaced.
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights over personal data that a company holds about you. We don't hold any through 4olio, but you're welcome to ask us about it.
This website
This site uses no cookies, analytics, trackers, web fonts or third-party scripts. It's hosted on Cloudflare Pages, and Cloudflare may log technical information such as IP addresses to deliver and secure the site, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
If you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to reply to you, and we don't add you to any list.
Changes
If 4olio ever changes how it handles data, for example by adding iCloud sync, we'll update this page and its date before that version is released, and say so in the app's release notes. We'll also update the App Store privacy label.
